Rememberance Day

To make this video i took a video and a song from youtube and put them together. I cut some parts out of the video and added text. I also added fade effects to it. I think this project was pretty good.

Week 8

Monday
Today, using final cut pro I cut out the peice of film that i wanted to use from the video clip i got fro youtube. I chose my song and added it to the video. I brought it to motion 2 and checked out some effects but didn't get to use any yet.

Tuesday
Today Mr D. gave us a note on photography and video and how to make it look good. I added fade effect to my commercial and added text. I am finished it now and it looks pretty good.

Wednesday
Today Mr D. assigned us anew project. We have to make an ad for cyber bullying. We brainstormed all class and got some good ideas.

Thursday
Today Mr D. told us that we could use a different idea other than cyber bullying. We spent most of class trying to think of a new subject but we couldn't think of one. Mr D. came and told us we can do our video on bring your kids to work day and how to be safe.

Friday
Today we got assigned a side project for Halloween. Mr D. showed us some photoshopped picture of teachers turned into Halloween people. Then he had us do it to ourselves. It turned out pretty good.

Journal Week 7

Monday
Today was a P.E. day today so we didn't come to school.

Tuesday
Today I almost finished my poster. I added some text and changed the colour of some stuff and now the colour scheme is better. Tomorrow i just have to do a few more finishing touches then I'm done.

Wednesday
Today i finished my shsm poster and it looks sick. It took me almost all of class to finish even though i only had a little bit left to do but people needed my help. I didn't get a chance to do the avatar thing but i will tomorrow.

Thursday
Today we took 2 quizzes and 1 test. We had to read about 3 pages before we took the test. Mr D. told us that we needed to get 100% on all of them. I took me a few tries but i did get it.

Friday
Today Mr D. told us about a new project. Some people did a commercial on an item. And others did it on remembrance day. Mine is on remembrance day. I took a video from youtube aand rendered it.

Journal Week 6

Monday
Today was Thanksgiving Day so we didn't come to school.

Tuesday
Today, I finished tracing a computer which I don't know why I did ( maybe I will use it later ). And I took some pictures for my poster. I took like 10 and one is good but i need to retake it because
Mr D. wants me to blur out the people in the background.

Wednesday
Today I retook a picture and it turned out good. Then I cut out my main figure from the picture and changed it to my liking. Now I have an idea of the poster layout.

Thursday
Today I added some star effects to my poster along with the website. I put stuff in its place and its looking pretty good. Also, we stayed later in this class because we had a pep rally right after.

Friday
Today, i cut out the white space on some of the pictures because it was getting in the way. I fixed the layout a bit and it looks even better. I went onto picnik.com and got some cool text to add to my poster.

Test 1 Review

What is communication technology?
1. Communication Technology gives students a better perspective on technology and its nature. It also shows students how to use and apply many of the programs out there. The students learn the impact of technology on themselves and on society. One of the main focuses in this course is the application of artistic perspective and thinking to the projects created. This course encourages the use of imagination due to the fact that technology has made it so easy to express it through a visual means. There are many different fields that this course introduces us to, leaving us to make the decision on which path we would like to venture down. One of the first areas we explore is Photoshop. This program makes it easy to create a work of art digitally with the use of many tools at the click of a button. Not only can it be used to create but it can also be used as a means of editing pictures that have already been created in the past as well as photographs. The next program we are introduced to is flash. In this program we are shown the art of 2-D animation. In this program you tell a story using many drawings that will depict time and motion once it is played. It is played like a flipbook, all of the images are separate but played at a quick speed and drawn properly will give it life. The next thing we learnt how to do was how to create a proper website. We where shown how to link everything together, create ads and basically customize the page to give it our own little touch. The last thing we learnt was video editing. This is my personal favorite area due to the fact that it lets you expand your imagination realistically and it also pieces everything together. First you start by storyboarding, which is the process of creating the story and visually giving an example of how you want it to look by drawing it out in quick sketches. The next step is getting the footage, you find all the necessities and then you film what you need until you have the perfect shot. Once you have your clips you bring them into an editing program and begin piecing everything together and editing them by giving them special effects, cutting them or changing the speed. Finally you make sure the sound, works with the footage and then you export it making it your very own scene or movie. Communication technology is definitely a great course to take if a future in any technical arts interests you.

Vector vs. Bitmap (raster) Graphics
1. All the shapes within vector images are represented as mathematical formulas
2. The image is composed of a pattern of dots
3. Vector graphics are more flexible than bitmapped graphics because they look the same even when you shrink or enlarge (scale) them to different sizes. In contrast, bitmapped graphics become jagged when you scale them. Vector images also look better on devices (monitors and printers) with higher resolution, whereas bitmapped images always appear the same regardless of a device's resolution. And finally, vector images often require less memory than bitmapped images.
4. First, bitmapped images are better than vectors at providing the photo realism of an original scene. That's why digital images that are either created from scanned analog photographs or captured by digital cameras are stored as bitmapped images. Secondly, bitmapped images are supported by web browsers, whereas vector images are not.
5. Programs that enable you to create and manipulate vector graphics are called draw programs, whereas programs that create or manipulate bitmapped images are called paint programs.

GIF vs JPEG
1. GIF's compression is called "lossless" literally meaning "doesn't lose quality" when compressed. JPG employs "lossy" compression which literally means the image "loses" quality during the compression process.
2. The GIF format only supports a palette with 256 colors while JPG's palette supports 16 million colors.

JPEG vs TIF
1. TiF’s are larger sized files.
2. Generally the same

TIF vs PNG
1. PNG uses a more efficient compression algorithm than GIF, is patent-free and supports true color images.
2. While support for PNG images in browsers has been low in the past, they can now be safely used in all modern browsers
3. TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is the most widely supported graphics file format for printing. Although TIFF is not suitable for viewing in Web browsers, it has other strengths: it is a highly flexible format which is supported by numerous image processing applications. TIFF was designed to be independent of the hardware platform and the operating system on which it executes.
4. PNG or TIFF cannot really substitute RAW files for later manipulation.

Journal Week 5

Monday
Mr D. showed us a noted about vector and bitmapped graphics. We copied as he went along the note. After I brainstormed my SHSM Poster and I have some good ideas.

Tuesday
Today Mr D. went over the SHSM poster again and showed us some examples. Then i finished my brainstorm and got my logo picture. I started tracing my logo and got it half way done.

Wednesday
Today I finished tracing my logo, but some of the anchor points aren't connected so i had the make a new one but it still looks good. I added a star in the background and some glint but I'm not done yet.

Thursday
Today I added an outline to my logo and added the text. I have a new slogan to go with my logo more. I also posted my logo/brainstorm.

Friday
Today we had a test. But at the beginning of class people had to get their pencils so that took a while. Then we worked on a test all class today. We I was finished i tried to get some work done bu the bell rang right when I logged in.

Vector and Bitmapped graphics

-Vector graphics: Image represent and stored as a collection of shapes, together with data (parameters) defining how the shapes will be produced and where they will be located
-Bitmapped images: Image represented and stored as a collection of pixels which displayed make up the image
-Rendering: Close the shape and apply the colours in
-Vector graphics enable images to be composed of filled shapes
-Each object can be manipulated individually
-Scaling objects is easy
-Anti-aliasing allows you to correct the pixellation effect
-Rasterising converts vector to bitmap. Tracing is opposite
-Examples of bitmapped images: GIF, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, DIB, PCD, PNG, etc

SHSM Poster

Our audience is students in high school grade 11-12 who have chosen a job in the technology field. The students must be dedicated to this job and read to work hard. We are going to encourage them to choose and help them succeed in this line of work.

Here's the logo i made from scratch:

I traced the man jumping and made him a black silhouette. I put a star behind him and i added radial gradient of different shades of blue. Then i added the text and put an outline on the star.

It took about 5 days of working on but its finally done. Its all originally made by me and all layout, etc is me. I got the idea or the pose in the picture from Mr D.; he said it would look good. I made the "Be A Star" thing just from a shooting star or something. I made it by using the star tool and then made them on an angle so they look like they are flying/ falling. I used the black bar on the bottom first to make a border-like thing, but then i used ore because it tought i fit in well.
